Bio Career Center develops new tool to assist in employer/candidate match - 03/24/2008
Santa Cruz, Calif. _ Bio Career Center (www.BioCareerCenter.com), an online job board and careers tool site for life-science professionals, has created a new tool to assist employers and candidates in the job match process.
"Bio Skills Select" will allow companies to develop a set of prepared, multiple choice questions for prospective candidates to answer. These questions will range from inquiries on professional experience to applicants specific skill sets. Bio Skills Select then uses the answers to rank their candidate pool. An open-ended question allows employers to gather specific information on a high priority topic from applicants.
"So many skills and experiences are involved in the life sciences and clinical medicine and those skills sets are evolving constantly," said Bio Career Center president Nick Folger. "We believe this will help employers speed up the selection process by narrowing the pool to those who best meet their needs."
Folger said the goal of the new tool will be to help "weed out" applicants early on who may not be an employer’s best fit, possibly saving the cost of interview time and/or travel. This is a plus to smaller organizations and hiring managers who often times don't have the luxury of larger hiring budgets.
Most importantly, "Bio Skills Select" is a precursor to an employer’s or organization's standard assessment program.
"Having a 'pre-assessed' tool for those who, on paper, exceed the qualifications for the position, helps build an effective decision process that will capture superior candidates prior to the competitor scheduling an interview," said Folger, leaving less room for poor hiring choices. "We at Bio Career Center feel this is just one more way we can give prospective employers the competitive advantage over others in their field."
Bio Career Center, the first to exclusively partner with Universities that offer reputable life science programs, features a jobs board that gathers the life-sciences postgraduate and clinical communities of member schools into one place. Bio Career Center's staff works with employers and provides deep, rich content focused on all of the alternatives that life-sciences Ph.D.s and M.D.s have before them.
The company also works with higher learning institutions including: University of California, Berkeley, Caltech, Scripps Institute, Stanford, University of California at San Francisco, University of Pennsylvania and University of Washington.
